An Integral Part of Marketing
Whether you like Social (Social Media) or not (and everyone has an opinion on platforms, which ones they likes, and which ones they hate), your customers are. Depending on your business and customer base, they are on different platforms doing different things.
If you are not on those platforms, you are missing them.
Engagement & Traffic
Social is about two things: engaging your customers and driving traffic to your website. Mostly, that’s it. There are other strategies like selling products on Social but for the bulk of SMBs (Small-Medium Businesses), it’s about connecting with your customers and driving them to the place you want them to go: your website.
Let’s dig into that a little more:
Engagement
Social can be a great way to let potential customers see into your business. I always recommend clients post about things that are going on in their businesses, behind the scenes shares, and posts about staff. Depending on the platform, Social is a great way for potential customers to engage with the vibe of your company, to connect with your brand, and start to build a relationship with your business.
If you’re just sharing hours, sales, and general posts about National Holidays, your missing opportunities to really engage current and future customers.
Driving Traffic
The other thing that Social can do is drive traffic to your website. If your website is the core of your Marketing (and it should be), then everything you can do to drive traffic to your website should be your top priority. So every post that you make should have a link to your website.
However, let’s be more purposeful.
I’m not just saying you should add a link to your homepage in every post that you make. I’m saying building a strategy to drive traffic to the pages and content that you want customers to go to deliver on specific business goals.
For example, if you were looking to grow sales on a specific line of products, you would post videos of staff talking about these products, customers reviews of the products, and maybe an interview with the staff member who fulfills the orders on how they do that. Each of these posts would include links taking them to the exact place where they can learn more on your website and act on that information.
This drives up conversions, improves SEO, and makes your website pay for itself.
